Maha Shivaratri Celebration -2026

The Maha Shivaratri celebration was held at the residence of Kaplana Basavaraj in San Diego. Devotees gathered to offer prayers, chant sacred mantras, and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

About Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri, meaning "The Great Night of Shiva," is one of the most significant Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. It symbolizes spiritual awakening, self-discipline, and the victory of light over darkness and ignorance. Devotees observe fasting, perform prayers (puja), chant "Om Namah Shivaya," and often stay awake throughout the night in devotion and meditation.

The festival is associated with several sacred traditions, including the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva's cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and transformation.

The celebration brought together family and friends in a spirit of devotion, community, and cultural heritage.

Basava Jayanti 2026 at Riverside Temple

Basava Jayanti was celebrated with great devotion at the temple in Riverside. Devotees gathered to honor the life and teachings of Basavanna, the renowned 12th-century philosopher, poet, and social reformer.

The celebration included prayers, devotional songs, vachana recitations, and discussions on Basavanna’s teachings of equality, compassion, honest work (Kayaka), and selfless service (Dasoha). The event brought together families and community members to reflect on his enduring message of social harmony and spiritual growth.

About Basava Jayanti

Basava Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Basavanna, the founder of the Lingayat movement. His teachings emphasized devotion to Lord Shiva, equality among all people, and the rejection of social discrimination. His vachanas continue to inspire millions with their timeless wisdom and relevance.
